Comparison of Price, Specs, and More: OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R
The OnePlus 12 series has been officially launched in India and the global market. Like the OnePlus 11 series, the collection features two models: the high-end OnePlus 12 and the more affordable, but equally attractive OnePlus 12R. While a lot has been revealed about these phones, many are still unsure whether to buy the OnePlus 12 or the OnePlus 12R. Here’s a comparison of specs and prices to see how these models differ so you can make an informed buying decision.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Specs Comparison
The OnePlus 12 was long expected to come with the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, and the smartphone indeed features the same chipset. However, the OnePlus 12R is no slouch with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which also powered the OnePlus 11 last year and many other Android flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Talking about the variants, the OnePlus 12 comes with two RAM options: 12GB and 16GB, while the OnePlus 12R changes this to an 8GB and 16GB model. The OnePlus 12 also offers more storage options as you can choose between 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage compared to the 128GB and 256GB models of the OnePlus 12R.
In terms of battery capacity and charging, the OnePlus 12 gets a 5400mAh battery that can be charged with a 100W fast charger and is the only OnePlus 12 to support 50W wireless charging out of the two models.
The OnePlus 12R, on the other hand, has a larger 5,500 mAh battery that also supports 100 W charging.
And speaking of software, both devices run Oxygen OS 14 based on Android 14 and get guaranteed Android OS updates for four years.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Display and Design
As for the display specifications, the OnePlus 12 is equipped with a superior 6.82-inch OLED panel. This panel has a QHD resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and a new ‘Aqua Touch’ feature that allows users to interact with the phone’s screen even in wet conditions such as rain or shower. In terms of specifications, the OnePlus 12 surpasses the OnePlus 12R with a 6.78-inch 1.5K panel that also supports a 120Hz refresh rate. Notably, the OnePlus 12R also includes support for Aqua Touch technology, making it a viable option for many users on a tight budget.
Additionally, a noteworthy feature of both the OnePlus 12 and 12R displays is their support for a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, which places them squarely in the premium smartphone category.
The design has been another much talked about change in this iteration. While the design elements remain the same, both models feature rounded displays, a metal frame and a glass back, representing a significant upgrade over the OnePlus 11R’s plastic frame.
OnePlus 12 Vs OnePlus 12R: Camera
Optics are an integral part of all smartphones, and the OnePlus 12 series is no exception. In particular, the OnePlus 12 features Hasselblad’s trademark triple camera system. This system includes a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 3X telephoto lens, and a third 48-megapixel camera with a 114-degree field of view (FOV). The OnePlus 12R is also well-equipped in the imaging department, with a 50-megapixel IMX 890 sensor, a secondary ultra-wide-angle lens, and a dedicated macro lens.
OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: Price
Arguably the most significant part of the purchase, OnePlus has strategically priced these devices to suit the target audience. OnePlus 12 with 12GB + 256GB configuration is priced at Rs 64,999. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 12R with 8GB + 128GB configuration is available at Rs 39,999, which is the same as the previous OnePlus 11R. These smartphones will go on sale through an open sale from January 30.
